Quicktime VR - 360 Panoramic view
We were asked to create a Quicktime VR 360 panoramic image. This was created using Photoshop and VRWorx.
Note: For some reason this doesn't work in Vista and some versions of XP
Visibly Beautiful Assignment
In this assignment we were given a brief by the company Reading Room.In this brief we were asked to produce a website about accessibility and it must also be accessible and allow users from all backgrounds to access the site. It must also encourage them to submit information about themselves and encourage them to return. We were asked to work in groups of 3, a Project Manager, a Designer and a Developer. I was elected to be the developer and I feel I managed to do what was required. As I had limited knowledge of data collection and storage using the internet I looked into ways of doing so and ended up spending a week learning PHP MySQL and then using what I had learnt to create the website. I will not upload the marketing and other supporting documentation at this stage. The top five groups were selected and had to present to a board at Reading Room. Our group was one of them. Even though this assignment was a group project and teams efforts came first Reading Room are selecting and offering placements to the top students.
Video & DVD Assignment
In this assignment we worked in groups of 4, each having to create a short film which displayed a feeling. We had to direct our own films, not necessarily acting in our own films but we had to choose camera angles and shots. Not only did we have to create the film footage and direct it we also had to edit it and produce the music or soundtrack to go with the clip. Once the films were complete we had to present our groups clips on a DVD and create a menu system for the DVD. The image above is the layout we decided to use and the film viewable is the film I created along with the sound.
3D Flythrough
In this assignment we were asked to create a 3D flythrough of our scene which we described in the other half of the assignment. My location was a basic house with a small garden and forest behind it. I started by sketching the rough layout of the house and storyboarding. I then created the 3D model and textured it. I used found models for all the items in the bathroom. Once textured I created the flythrough editing the camera track and focus as it went, I also animated certain objects such as the door so that it would open when approached. Feel free to watch the 3D animation however, it may take some time to load.
Interactive Toy
In this assignment we were asked to create an interactive toy. I really wanted to push my Flash skills so I was determined to create something using Flash. I wanted to create a desk where I could throw 3D objects around and move the camera position. However, Flash is not the program to use for this. I created some 2D objects and created an environment with gravity and friction and then set some rules for the objects. The two objects can be dragged around the screen and into each other causing a reaction to occur. They can also be thrown around using an equation to calculate the velocity and then bounce around the screen. I have also allowed users to edit the settings, this can create some interesting effects. There is a bug in this toy as I didn't have enough time to try and work it out, however you can press the reset button to return the objects to their start positions.
Make a Difference
In this assignment we were asked to create a multimedia artefact which was based around something we felt strongly about to do with improving the world / society. As I love my diving and suffered a diving injury due to pollution and dirty water I decided to base my artifact around water pollution and reef depletion. Unfortunately due to computer limitations I was unable to complete my idea to the full however created a simulation of what I would have liked to happen and presented it all in a Director created interactive application. Due to hosting limitations I am unable to put a version online.
Portrait Assignment
In this assignment we were asked to create a Director presentation to show our work for the assignment. We were asked to use the photographic studio to take two photos, one black and white the other in colour. We were also asked to take a 360 panoramic image of somewhere based on an artist's painting, I chose Monet's painting of the Houses of Parliament. The time of day we took the picture caused a golden glow to occur over the water and buildings, this creates an effect similar to Monet's painting. The third task was to create a surreal image, take two pictures, one of something random and another of something else which is completely different. I chose to use a roundabout and a golf green. To view this assignment please email me using the contacts form and request a copy to be sent to you, this is due to web hosting limitations.
Portal Assignment
In this assignment we were asked to create a web portal and an animation. We were asked to try and experiment and not create the usual web portal (which is a page full of links) but to create a unique looking portal. We could create a general portal or a niche portal. I chose to create a niche diving portal, this is because I had already got the research from previous assignments. It isn't cheating, it's using your head to optimize your time at the bar! The animation had to be on a sport. I decided to try and stay on the extreme sports idea and make an extreme paintballing animation. This can be viewed by clicking on the advert on the portal homepage.
People Fusion Assignment
In this assignment we were given two people who were famous for something. I was assigned Tom Baker and Miles Davis. Tom Baker is most famous for his work in Dr Who as the fourth incarnation of the Doctor, and Miles Davis was an amazing jazz trumpeter who managed to improvise in many styles and contributed a lot to the music industry. We had to research the two people and from our research we had to find a link between the two people. After lots of research I decided on the link being 'time' as in Dr Who Tom Baker was a timelord and traveled through time. Miles Davis was able to keep incredible time while improvising in many different styles and throughout time as a musician his musical style changed many times as he himself aged and changed. This was also present in Miles Davis' artwork. To represent this link I made use of Macromedia Flash and Adobe ImageReady. I used these two programs to create an animation of aging, the website as a whole page ages and cracks, trying to represent aging. Images of Tom Baker and Miles Davis age along with other things on the page. As this assignment was not needed to be optimized, none of the files have been optimized therefore quite a powerful computer is needed to view the page correctly or you will have a jerky animation.
Place Assignment
This assignment asked us to choose a place that we enjoyed and found interesting. We then had to create a multimedia artefact which communicated something about the place we had chosen. I chose the island of Gozo for its diving. The thing I tried to communicate was the way diving is unique each time you dive. Even if you dive the same site twice it will not be the same; the fish will be different, visibility will be different, you might notice things you missed on the first dive etc.. Because of the constant changes at a dive site I decided that it was unpredictable, almost completely random as to what you might see. I managed to communicate this by creating a javaScript site which randomly chooses fonts, colours, sizes, positioning etc. Each time the site is refreshed the page will be different. As this assignment was not needed to be optimized, none of the files have been optimized therefore quite a powerful computer is needed to view the page correctly or you will have a slow page load. Due to time limits I was unable to fully complete what I was wanting to do.
Generic Skills
I was asked to create all the content sections of this multimedia training cd. I was given free rein of design aspects of how the text and images were presented to the user. However, had no input on the overall look of the application. The videos and games sections were mostly created by other people however I did create some.
Jurys Restaurant
I was asked to make a basic website with a table booking form. This was created using php. This website, however, is no longer online but can still be viewed off my site.
Wisteria Tesse
I was asked to make a basic html website to advertise a house in the south of France. It was made before IE 7 was released and worked on both IE6 and Firefox. However, it doesn't work on IE7.
Me
I don't know what to blame on this illustration. It could be that you are never pleased with pictures of yourself, I guess the same can be said for illustrations.
Peter Bolton King
I created this while practicing my illustration skills, I have always found it difficult to draw people. There is only one way to improve!

Scope 2
I created this while practicing my illustration skills, this was created using the gradient tool and several other effects. It was also used in one of my university projects.
Paintballing Logo
I created this for a university project. This was the logo for my paintballing animation.
Paintball Gun
This was created for a university project. The aim of the project was to create a Flash animation, mine was about paint balling and used this to create a 1st person effect.
Futurama & Simpsons
I created this by taking the characters from both TV shows and putting them together.
Tank
I created this by tracing a picture of a tank and overlaying it back onto the original image. I also used Photoshop to add dust and engine smoke.
Girl
I saw an image in a magasine and wanted to create a similar image. This was created by drawing directly into Illustrator and is the first illustration I drew without tracing.
Apache Helicopter
I created this by tracing a picture of the helicopter. This was done to improve my pen skills.
Desk
This is the first illustration I created from scratch. I used stroke effects and a mixture of gradients and opacity levels to create the look.
